…it’s a very difficult thing to do
When I first started reading I have to be honest boy on bridge By Mr. Carey I am disappointed.I’ve read his previous stories The girl with all the gifts I was hooked from the start. This guy’s performance was mediocre. But, there was something about it that made me curious to continue, and boy, am I glad I did. Suddenly the hook clicked and I couldn’t put it down.
The story takes place several years after the apocalypse, with “hunger” now taking over. The survivors live in a compound called Beacon Muster somewhere on the south coast of England. It’s a desolate world where scientists are regularly sent out under armed escort to find a cure for a virus that’s claimed so many lives.
This latest trip is where the story begins…
The crew of 12, traveling in a tank-like RV named Rosie, have been on the road for a while. Unbeknownst to others, Dr. Samrina Khan had just found out she was pregnant. As one of the scientists, Khan had a duty to keep an eye on Stephen Greaves, whom she had taken under her wing ever since she discovered he was a traumatized child. He’s considered an autistic savant, which is weird, but he was the first to figure out a way to stop hungry people from smelling humans, so he was allowed to travel as one of the scientists.
Stephen had a habit of sneaking out to explore his surroundings whenever the crew set up camp, and it was during one of these attempts that he discovered a new hunger phenomenon. His reluctance to share his findings led to disastrous results.
The crew finds themselves being relentlessly hunted and trying to get home, but something lurking in their midst blocks their path to safety. After suffering a major attack, Khan gave birth to a baby boy. But the joy of their new life is short-lived when they find themselves led into a trap by one of their own. It was here that Khan, with the help of Stephen, made a life-changing decision as the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of his crew and children.
I’m not sure if I’m doing this story justice with this review, but I really don’t want to give anything away. There are lots of little twists and unexpected turns that make this story unique. If you’re like me and think wow, this is a slow-moving story, don’t stop reading! Just turn a few more pages and boom, the story unfolds wonderfully! You can pick up your copy here!
