If you’re looking for the next great horror story, don’t bother reading this article. However, if you are looking for a good crime thriller, this is the film for you. Laird Barron changes that in his latest novel.Read like a pulp fiction paperback The Standard of Blood (Novel by Isaiah Coleridge) An antihero killer unintentionally becomes a good guy.
Isaiah Coleridge, who is of Maori/Caucasian descent, also killed many people while working for the gang, but when he witnessed the mafia boss Vitale shooting walruses in Alaska, something in his heart broke out. Things suddenly fell apart. Isaiah crossed the line and lashed out at Vitale, sending him to the hospital. Now, a marked man, Isaiah, finds himself holed up on a horse farm outside of New York City.
The story is gathering momentum here. Ruby, the granddaughter of the couple who run the farm, goes missing. No one sitting next to Isaiah would make it their mission to find the girl while trying to keep a low profile.
Ruby’s disappearance may be related to some small-time drug dealing, possibly to one of the rival gangs residing in the town. Isaiah finds himself one step ahead of his pursuers while peeling back the local underground. Isaiah may be quick with his witty comebacks and deft with his hands, but will it be enough to keep him alive?
This is a fast-paced, tightly structured read. Barron’s way with words brings his story to life. There are so many tricks and asides that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. You think you finally have it figured out, and then boom, nope, gotta keep reading! So if you want to see a thriller filled with gore and gore, pre-order your copy blood standards here! ! I should mention that I received an ARC for review purposes.
