A dark collection indeed! Kenneth Kane has collected quite a few short stories for you to read. emberthe stories are varied and themeless, giving everyone a taste of Kane’s creative storytelling. Some of these stories have a Poe-esque quality, others a Lovecraftian one, and then we find those that give us Rod Serling’s moral musings. Yes, these stories are great!
I’m not going to attempt to give a synopsis of every story because there are so many (25), but I wanted to mention a few of my favorites.
Valerie’s Window Telling us that sometimes it is better to embrace death than to stay in an abusive relationship. I am not recommending that path, but it gives us insight into a tragic situation.
The window to dreams It’s kind of like a Lovecraftian love story. We see the effects of unrequited love on a person, and a dark and desperate melancholy envelops the reader.
Love is blind, as we have seen desolate. It is difficult for a person to see that he has become a monster until it is too late. Love can also be deadly.
exist Save a life We hear eyewitness accounts of the serial killer’s dark deeds. How long can he sit back and do nothing?
Peer pressure is a nasty thing. We want so badly to trust our instincts, but sometimes we give in and the results can be dire. Breathing Cave is an example of what happens when you follow.
Water snake A fun take on classic 60s horror. Monsters are out to attack you, so someone needs to be the hero!
Oh, there are so many more stories I love, but I’ll stop here, and hopefully this will be enough to entice you to buy the book. But before I go, here’s the secondnd I have to give a shout out to Ben Baldwin for another outstanding book cover this week!
Available in both eBook and paperback formats, you can grab a copy here!!
