John Borden and Chad Lutzke, Behind the Barn Review – Horror Novel Review

Reviewed by: Paula Limbaugh

Oh wow! ! What a great collaboration. John Boden and Chad Lutzke put together such a great story. behind the barn This is a soulful story that inspires many emotions. There is love and loss, life and death, and even tearful goodbyes. I’m not even sure how I feel after reading their story, but I would love to read anything they write together in the future!

Young David and Ronnie live with old Maggie on a remote farm. Maggie sees and treats the boys as her sons, but Maggie has a secret. Their way of life is an isolated one. The boys were educated at home and never left school. Maggie would go into town from time to time to find help around the farm, but the people she found never seemed to stick around for long.

After bringing Ben home, things start to look up for Maggie, life hasn’t always been fair to her, and with Ben, she thinks she’s finally found someone to stay and be the father figure she longs for her children to have . Sadly, however, bringing Ben home might have been the biggest mistake she ever made!

Since I don’t want to spoil anything, I won’t reveal the storyline anymore. I will say it though; this story is well crafted subtle horror at its best. I don’t think you’ll guess what’s going on until it’s too late and your heartstrings are tugged. The characters created by Boden and Lutzke are so real that you feel for them. You really need to read this article! Pick up your copy today, here! !

Oh, and homage to Zach McCain’s cover, which depicts the scene of the story!

5/5 behind the barn
