James DeSantis Kill Your Boss Review – Horror Fiction Review

cover

By David Blackthorne

This story is not a novel, nor a novella, nor a short story, depending on how you feel about word count.

Kill Your Boss tells the adventure story of three disgruntled employees who decide to kill their boss at his home. Ben, Ron, and Alyssa sneak into their boss’s home at night, thinking they have everything planned out. Of course, things don’t go as planned. They discover that their boss has a secret of his own.

The book isn’t divided into chapters, but into characters’ viewpoints. Sometimes these viewpoints bleed into each other; for example, when we read from Ben’s point of view, he’ll feel for Ron and Alyssa from time to time. Many readers won’t mind this too much. Hardcore critics will nitpick it, whether or not it actually affects the story. For me, it really wasn’t a big deal.

The story itself was a bit predictable, even towards the end. I’d say the concept was not bad, it just needed a good editor to tidy it up a bit and suggest some twists that might not be so predictable.

Much of the story seems to be concerned with Ron and Ben’s mutual feelings for Alyssa.

Overall, this book is pretty good. I didn’t see the editor’s signature, which would have been better.
