Zed Zane is an average guy who has accomplished nothing. He has a degree in philosophy and works at a local café. He can’t even pay the rent. On one of his trips to borrow money from his parents, he found a horrific scene. His stepfather had killed his mother and attacked him. Zed managed to kill him, but before that he was bitten.
Zed knew nothing about zombies and the pandemic sweeping the world. All of that is about to change. He was infected. Yet, he didn’t change, at least not quickly. Some call him a chronically ill person who may actually be immune. There are many more like him, but not many.
Zed is in trouble. To the zombies, he’s food; to the uninfected, he’s a zombie. He just needs to keep a low profile and survive, but that’s easier said than done.
Slow Fire: Day Zero, Book 1written by Bobby Adair, is Slow Burn series. Currently, there are five novels in this epic tale that follows Zed Zane and his new life in the apocalypse. Like many modern zombie stories, the emphasis is on adventure rather than horror. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing.
Bobby Adair has created an imaginative and accessible zombie apocalypse novel. Zed Zane is your average guy. He has no skills or knowledge to survive the apocalypse. However, fate is on his side. His slow movements allow him to escape detection among the infected. This is his first head start in life, and he’s going to need it.
The spread and impact of the outbreak are handled extremely well. The pseudoscience used in the explanations is both believable and understandable. The most important thing about any horror novel is believability, and Adair’s description is just right.
Slow Fire: Day Zero, Book 1 Presented at an incredibly fast pace. Zed is dealing with a situation that is developing at an alarming rate. The storyline reflects this. Zed quickly jumps from scene to scene, from problem to problem.
However, it is clear that at the end of the novel, Zed’s problems are far from over. To that end, four more books continue the adventure. This is both a good and a bad thing. Readers can continue to explore the world and follow Zed Zane’s adventures, but the ending is inconclusive, which for many people is both ambiguous and unsatisfying.
For those of you who are always looking for more zombies, Slow Fire: Day Zero, Book 1written by Bobby Adair, is a great choice. Adair has written a fascinating story. Be prepared to root for everyone. Zed Zane is your typical unexpected hero. However, unless you plan to read all five books, expect the ending to leave you unsatisfied.
