Colder Greystone is a wonderful collection of short stories by the renowned author Tanith Lee. This is an extension of the original book published in 2012. Frost Watcher This story was originally written forEnglish Stone publication, inspired by the cover art of renowned artist John Kaiine (Tanith Lee’s husband); for some reason it was not included at the time, but with the new edition we can finally see what we’ve been missing! Tanith Lee has won many awards, including last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention. Well deserved, I must add.
In the Black Forest From a song sung by Ms. Li’s mother, In the dark forest I go at nightAh, it is truly a dark forest, and townspeople for miles around have stories to tell. Once you go in, you can never get back out; until Louis is forced in at gunpoint, along with his sinister future brother-in-law.
In the country of the blind This reminds us of the old proverb: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
“Have you ever thought about killing someone? Probably.” The story begins like this Kill her. Tooty Wilson is always getting on the nerves of her coworkers; things are getting really bad and action is needed!
Frost Watcher is a chilling and thought-provoking story of what the future holds. One night, while tending his sheep, a young shepherd named Durdin meets a watcher. He receives a warning that a frost unlike anything he has ever seen is approaching. He tries to tell others about the warning, but to no avail, and ends up keeping it to himself. Seven years later, life goes on, but the warning still haunts Durdin, until one day he meets Kroth, an old man who lives in a cave in the mountains. The beginning of the end has begun.
I really enjoyed this collection of stories put together by Ian Whates. But I must admit, I’m also a fan, so I love anything written by Tanith Lee.
