RiseBrian Keen’s Zombie Novel is often listed as one of the ten best zombie novels of all time. The year the novel was published, Keen won the Bram Stoker Award for Best Debut Novel. Keen’s post-apocalyptic world was a novel work, and its style took the horror fiction world by storm.
Zombies Rise They are not mindless robots. They are walking corpses possessed by demons and instilled with the knowledge of their hosts. They can speak, use tools, set traps, etc… In addition, the infection is not limited to humans, but has spread to the surrounding wildlife. There are zombie rats, birds, and even zombie deer. The only advantage humans have against the plague of the undead is that these creatures move slower than they would when they were alive due to decay.
In essence, Rise It tells the story of a father’s love for his son. Jim believes that his son Danny is still alive and he will do whatever it takes to find him. Along the way, Jim befriends Martin, a priest, and Frankie, a former prostitute. Together, they face hordes of the walking dead many times, and each time they defeat the demons that devour the earth. Then, the book ends with a suspense.
City of the Dead yes ReeseBritain and resolves the ending of the first novel while resolving many of the questions that arose in the narrative. Jim’s faith is rewarded and together they find their way to humanity’s last bastion, a skyscraper in downtown New York City. Led by a fictional Donald Trump, humanity will make their final stand against the zombie hordes that have taken control of the Earth. The result is a definitive ending that leaves no doubt about the fate of Jim and his son, while still toying with the concepts of faith and God.
Although many people think this Rise and City of the Dead They are two halves of a larger story. Both novels stand alone. CIOf the Dead It has a pulp horror feel and in many ways surpasses its predecessor. It just has more blood, more sex, and more over-the-top antics from Ob, the leader of the zombie hordes. It’s also the better written of the two, as Keene shows off his growing strength as a writer.
However, Risewith its unpolished script and unique take on the zombie apocalypse, is a new work. In many ways, including concept and plot mechanics, City of the Dead It’s a remake. It’s a great book, but readers will lose some of the shock and excitement of the earlier work. If you like Riseyou will like City of the Dead. Much the same, but better.
