I find myths or folk tales to be a fascinating study. Like urban legends, there is always some vague basis for the beginning of the story. You know, like an alleged witch curses someone with her dying breath, then coincidentally, the cursed person’s house burns down, oh no, then it must be true, “so and so” really is a witch, and thus, another story unfolds with each telling until it becomes true!
exist Celtic Curse: BansheeDJ Doyle took one such myth, the Banshee, and made up a pretty fascinating story. Her story begins in 17day In 19th century Ireland, a young man from the O’Neill family becomes obsessed with a gypsy girl. But when his father learns of the affair, he hires a thug to drive the girl out of town. However, things go wrong and his bloodline sons are cursed.
Fast forward to the second part of the book and we find ourselves in modern-day England, where Sean and his extended family live. For years, the curse has been lying dormant, the bloodline weakening through intermarriage. But recently, Sean’s teenage son Kevin has been plagued by nightmares, and his grandfather, who is about to turn 18, has become concerned about a banshee curse. At first, Grandpa Brendan’s old stories are ignored, but as things begin to take a serious turn for the worse, Sean realizes he must return to Ireland and find a way to break the curse on his son before it’s too late.
In a race against time, Sean enlists the help of two locals who know the terrain well. But will it be enough, or is the bloody curse too powerful? You’ll have to read the book to find out!
Doyle blends fact and fiction to present us with an imaginative story full of surprising twists and turns. I found myself turning the pages to find out what would happen next. This is Doyle’s first novel and I look forward to reading more from this author. You can grab your copy here!
